MAJOR TOXICOLOGY RESOURCES

TOXNET
A project of the National Institute of Health and the National Library of Medicine. This is the largest searchable
database collection on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and toxic releases.
The following are the databases included in TOXNET:
ChemIDplus a chemical dictionary and structure database
Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB®) database of potentially hazardous chemicals
TOXLINE® containing references to the world's toxicology literature
Chemical Carcinogenesis Research Information System (CCRI) carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, tumor
promotion, and tumor inhibition data provided by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology and Environmental Teratology Information Center
(DART/ETIC) current and older literature on developmental and reproductive toxicology.
GENE-TOX peer-reviewed mutagenicity test data from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) the EPA in support of human health risk assessment, focusing on
hazard identification and dose-response assessment.
ITER
A product of the Cincinnati based Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment, ITER presents chemical risk
information from authoritative groups worldwide, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S.
Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, Health Canada, the Dutch National Institute of Public Health
and the Environment, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, as well as independent parties whose risk
values have undergone peer review.
LactMed
A peer-reviewed and fully referenced database of drugs to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed. Among
the data included are maternal and infant levels of drugs, possible effects on breastfed infants and on lactation,
and alternate drugs to consider.
MULTIDATABASE SEARCH
Integrated search of any or all of the following databases: Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB), Integrated
Risk Information System (IRIS), International Toxicity Estimates for Risk (ITER), Chemical Carcinogenesis Research
Information (CCRIS), and Genetic Toxicology (GENE-TOX).
TRI
Annual estimated releases of toxic chemicals to the environment - the Environmental Protection Agency's TRI
(Toxics Release Inventory) - reporting years 1995 - 2000.
Haz-Map® links jobs and hazardous tasks with occupational diseases and their symptoms.
HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS.GOV information in the Household Products Database is taken from a variety of
publicly available sources, including brand-specific labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) prepared by
manufacturers.
TOXMAP is a web site that uses maps of the United States to show the amount and location of certain toxic
chemicals released into the environment
WISER is a PDA application designed to assist first responders in hazardous material incidents.
